new york here we come!

well...as you may have figured out, i found out today that the ny office wants me for the second half of the summer.  so, joel and i will be spending 3-4 weeks there.  i can't wait!

i'm starting to wonder...why me?  this is just all so incredible.

update

i was looking at past posts (yes, i like reading what i have written...i happen to find myself extremely funny and informative) and decided i needed to update you on some things i had posted about.

i interviewed for an editor position on the law review and didn't get one of them.  i was a bit disappointed at first, but now i am relieved cause its a lot of extra work (and, they reassured me that i wasn't chosen not because i am a psychopath but because they didn't know me that well since i was in london last semester...i can buy that).

i am still researching animal rights for the dean.  

joel and i no longer have premarital at rockharbor but are starting up with our pastor this weekend.

the invitations are done and coming our way this week so that we can assemble them.

i have a job! yea! i know i already posted about this but i need to obsessively talk about it so that everyone understands how traumatic this whole experience has been.

i failed my midterm.  which is frustrating because i compared mine to a friend (who received an a-) and i had everything he did (and more!) but i labeled mine differently and had a slightly different structure. i guess labels deserve an f.

rachel's wedding was wonderful and also made me extremely jealous because she is living with her husband and i only see mine on the weekends.  i'm trying to understand the fairness in all this (i guess there is a slight difference since joel is not my husband - yet - but i fail to see how this is important.  darn christian morals and not living together before marriage).

free time

what do i do with all this time on my hands?  as law students i feel we are always berating the fact that we have no time.  no time to study, no time to exercise, no time to visit with friends.  this semester, unlike any other, is loaded with free time.  oddly enough this is my busiest semester yet...besides school, job hunting, researching for a professor, and planning a wedding, i now have to maintain an apartment and drive to school everyday.  yet - yet (i'm allowing the emphasis to set in) i find myself with more free time then ever before.  coincidence?

i think its my unbearable laziness setting in.  today i was thinking back on my first semester and how incredibly disciplined i was.  i exercised 3-4 times a week, studied every night, took every sunday off to relax, and had great sleep every night.  this semester seems to be the exact opposite.  hmmm...more time is definitely spent on the internet and watching sitcoms on dvd.  less time is spent studying and exercising and cleaning (i'm starting to find shame in my living situation).  ugh.  i need  a jump start into uber-productive disciplined amanda life.  

any suggestions?

this is a quote my new boss said after she extended me a job offer at kaye scholer.  

i believe 100% that God orchestrated for this job to happen.  the past few months have been horrible on the job front.  this is an amazing firm and were able to work me in for the summer.  the position they offered was extremely unique to me and the situation.

for the first 8 weeks we will be in the la office and then maybe we'll be in the ny office for the last 4 weeks of the summer.  i hate to admit that my faith in the Lord's timing and purpose was beginning to wane and i was starting to think this would never happen.  i'm foolish to think that He would bring me to law school and then not provide a future.

thank you to all of you that have been diligently praying for me and this whole crappy job searching.  i hope to bring you many great stories from this upcoming summer at my new job!

spring break!! woohoo!!

tonight marks the beginning of spring break.  last year we didn't have a break because instead of "spring" in the title, our LRW professors swapped "appellate brief"  to bring the full title to "you-think-you-had-a-week-off-but-really-you-have-to-write-this-horrible-assignment week."

this year, there will be none of that.  instead i will be going to hawaii? no. mexico? no. san diego? no.  the gynecologist?  yes.  i will be visiting the doctor, cleaning my apartment, working on the wedding, attending a conference for those interested in judicial clerkships, and writing papers for two of my classes.

but you know what makes this week different from last year? i chose to do all those things but last year i was forced to write an appellate brief.

reason #256 why i love my school...

just when you thought lawyers couldn't be anymore fun, they blow your socks off with a rousing game of dodgeball.  last friday (i know, i'm reporting on old events) my school had its annual dodgeball tourney.  this is one of the main reasons why i decided to attend pepperdine.  forget the fact that we are in malibu with an incredible view, that we had the chief justice speak at our dinner, that our professors are ranked the highest and we have one of the most infamous lawyers as our deans.  hands down pepperdine is the best choice because of its dodgeball game.

the tourney was held inside the lawschool atrium.  the sba works for about three hours to turn the place into a stadium for champions.  big blue tarps are hung from floor to ceiling on three sides and on the fourth side mesh makes up the wall (this way spectators have a choice between floor seating and peering down from the second floor).  brad was the mc and would play music and give random facts about the teams.  and because we take our rules and our dodgeball seriously, we had three refs to make sure people left the area when they were out.  it was very intense!

unfortunately i didn't have my camera on me (one of the few times too since i always carry it on me for reasons such as this) to capture the amazing costumes...so i will describe them to you.

the winning costumes were from a team named after a radio station (they were something like kf 105...).  when their team was called, 6 people with cardboard boxes painted as law books came wobbling into the arena.  i was incredibly impressed at how amazing their painting skills were and how life like those books were.  the bluebook (remember that post?) was even tabbed (because all first years are terrified into the fact that if their books are not tabbed then we will fail out of law school).  i was trying to figure out how they would play dodgeball with no arms when all of a sudden their arms pushed through the sides of the boxes and a dodgeball team was born!

my friends, the "cereal killers", dressed up as different cereal mascots.  matt was captain crunch, brad was lucky charms, missy was trix, johnny was milk.  it was classic.  some other friends dressed up as "winter wonderland" where one guy was ice (he had a box around his midsection that was wrapped in saran wrap and glitter on his face) and another guy was a polar bear.  in an actual polar bear costume.  i think he threw the ball all of twice.  another team dressed up as malibu's most wanted (they were charlie sheen, mel gibson, amy winehouse, lindsay lohan, nicole richie, and paris hilton - very creative).

then you had your ridiculous teams that took the competition too seriously and did not dress up.  they had names like baron von awesomes and average joes.  and this competition was not just for students.  as always, there was a team made up of faculty (my professor barry mac - he taught con law in london - was on that team), one of faculty kids, and another from the IT department.

it was a rousing good time and by the end of the tourney my voice was hoarse and my smile ear to ear.  i cant wait till next year to see what people come up with then.
